The Armadillo & Co collection of contemporary handwoven floor rugs celebrates craftsmanship and traditional weaving techniques. Designed in Australia and handmade by artisans in India, all of the Armadillo & Co floor rugs are handmade, sustainably crafted and only use natural fibres for added luxury and warmth.
Armadillo & Co’s latest additions inject fresh colour and materials into the Earth and Latitude collections.
Inspired by aerial photography of the natural environment - from arid plains to ancient pyramids and carved out chasms to rural grasslands - these latest additions have an underlying character and saturation in hue previously unseen in their ranges. “The colour palette roams across sandy neutrals, grey tints and deep charcoals that grip the natural fibres in a beautiful way” explains co-founder Jodie Fried.
A highlight of the new designs is the elevation of jute, a traditionally humble fibre. “We are celebrating the beauty of high quality jute, which in its original state has unique variations in shading” says Sally Pottharst, brand co-founder. “Once the yarn is hand dyed and knotted, these inconsistencies result in a splendid silk-like texture that perfectly translates the landscape to the loom.”
Reflecting the landscapes of the African grasslands, this design is worked with a combination of high and low pile. Inviting to touch, it is sumptuously soft underfoot.
2018 sees the addition of two new colours Savannah Dust - a grey/brown & Savannah Carbon - an inky charcoal with flecks of brown to the existing Savannah Natural colour.
Alternating high & low piles gives the Savannah rug a subtle, soft patterning.

Cairo evokes its namesake’s ancient pyramids. Dense diamonds of high wool pile traverse the flat sections like sand dunes, a daring design that harks back to the 70s craft movement but with a polished modern edge.
Available in two colours, Cairo Sleet - a soft natural with silvery grey undertones and Cairo Wheat - a warmer brown with flecks of natural.
The deep diamond pattern gives the Cairo rug a playful edge.

Arid plains are brought to life by Desert and its clever combination of fibre and technique. Raw jute with its nuanced shading is overdyed for a beautiful complexity in colour, mimicking the hazy mirage of a desert oasis.
Available in three earthy colours, Desert Sleet - a soft natural with silvery grey undertones, Desert Quarry - a combination of grey & earthy brown and Desert Carbon - a mix of inky charcoal with brown flecks.

Pampas takes its name from the soft, hardy grasslands of rural South America. Pure spun wool is hand knotted into a plush low pile, producing a subtly linear design that is clean and classic with uncontrived interest.
Available in three cool toned colours, Pampas Gull - a light natural tone with soft speckled grey, Pampas Quartz - a slightly warmer toned natural base with hints of grey & brown and Pampas Cinder - a dark grey speckled with hints of grey & white.
A soft linear patterning appears through the subtle colouring of this rug.

Malawi is the linear sister of our well-loved Zulu and Nala rugs. A ribbed pile, inspired by the country’s gently undulating plateaus, has a definite direction that will ‘bloom’ and blend over time.
A warm natural colour with grey undertone.

Reminiscent of the Grand Canyon’s carved-out chasms, Ravine introduces the artistry of jute into the Earth Collection. The fibre is left raw and full of tonal depth before being overdyed for gradations in colour that fade soulfully over time.
Available in two colours, Ravine Quarry - a combination of grey and earthy brown and Ravine Coal - a deep inky black.
A tight braid like weave adds beautiful texture and variation in colouring.
